Testimonials from former students who attended practical apologetics class at Singapore Bible College

"I find the Conversational Evangelism course very helpful. I learnt how to listen, analyze the motives and real needs of an individual. I learnt how to tackle the real issues. It provided me a firm foundation and frame work on which I could build upon. The course inspired me to do more evangelism. Since I attended the course, I have shared the gospel with more than 5 people. I have been inspired to learn more about evidence of our faith. The book list is very useful and I shall continue to read more. I believe all the churches should learn how to use Conversational Evangelism to share the gospel. Thank you Rev Geisler for conducting such a great course. I really enjoyed it."

"Last Friday (25/11/2005), one of my CG member articulated his fear of jeopardizing the working relationship with his non-believing colleagues as reason for the hesitation to share the gospel. Religion is a sensitive topic given the multi-religious context here in Singapore (people are generally concerned about maintaining religious harmony). After hearing him, I shared briefly about CE approach which effectively addresses his concern. I am glad I have been taught this method and I am excited to impart this to others in my church. It is definitely a useful method of evangelism here in Singapore."

"I have benefited much from this course and have spoken to the leadership in my Church and they have agreed to include Conversational Evangelism as part of the equipping program for the ministry leaders and congregation...This method certainly helps Christian to be better equipped as witnesses...I am confident and excited that it would be effectively used."

"I wish to share with you that that my friend who was an atheist has prayed to receive Christ. This is my first fruit after receiving this training. Initially I was at a total loss as to how to deal with her as she had been asking a lot of questions during our Bible study. She even went to the extent to search for books in the library to support her belief in the evolution theory. However, after attending your class in July last year, I began to listen carefully and identify the sour notes from our conversations. As I began to help her to uncover all the discrepancies in her belief, she was more open to the word of God. Yes. pre-evangelism is necessary and it is a process. Gone were the days when we can simply share the 'Four Spiritual Laws' and people just gave their lives to Christ. Therefore, I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for taking pains to train us the practical evangelism course."

"For me, I have found the teaching most helpful in my personal evangelism...I had used conversational evangelism to yield some most surprising results. Thus far, the people who used to show defensiveness when I start to talk about Christ, no longer seem to respond that way, and the only thing that had changed was my approach! I have also gained additional insights about the persons with whom I was talking to because the method gives us a framework with which to access their worldview and objections. And most importantly, it has given me the confidence to press on, to building bridges with people and seek opportunities to turn the conversation on to spiritual issues. Thank you soooo much for bringing this to us at SBC."

"Building relationships, caring for others' soul is the driving force behind Conversational Evangelism. It needs time to cultivate relationship but is an important task to embark on. This is not the style/culture of people in this (Asean) region due to our introvert nature. Conversational Approach is able to built give us this boost in confidence to evangelize and a platform to built this relationship."

"I used to join Campers Crusade for Christ (CCC) for door-to-door evangelism and street evangelism in the early 80’s. However, as time goes by, I found that sharing Christ using the four spiritual laws booklet is no longer an effective way of sharing the Truth with others.

During my five-years stint in Indonesia as a missionary, though by the grace of God there were a number of converts, but I found it difficult to get most people to be interested in wanting to know more about Christianity.

However, after I attended the Practical Apologetics conducted in the Singapore Bible College by Dr. David Geisler, I learned about pre-evangelism and the four types of roles I need to play in the pre-believer’s life. I also learned the skill of listening and identifying the sour notes and asking appropriate questions that surface the uncertainty about the pre-believer’s perspectives.

Since I completed the training in November 2006, I have been practicing the skills that I have learned. I find that it is not only practical but also effective in my outreach ministry. At least ten persons prayed to receive Christ since I used this approach for evangelism. I am more motivated to use the conversational evangelism approach in my daily conversational with others as I am made aware that the most important thing is to help the pre-believer to be one step away from his/her belief and bring him/her one step closer to Christ. It is the grace of God who will bring salvation to him/her."
