"Last Friday (25/11/2005), one of my CG member articulated his fear of jeopardizing the working relationship with his non-believing colleagues as reason for the hesitation to share the gospel. Religion is a sensitive topic given the multi-religious context here in Singapore (people are generally concerned about maintaining religious harmony). "I wish to share with you that that my friend who was an atheist has prayed to receive Christ. This is my first fruit after receiving this training. Initially I was at a total loss as to how to deal with her as she had been asking a lot of questions during our Bible study. She even went to the extent to search for books in the library to support her belief in the evolution theory. However, after attending your class in July last year, I began to listen carefully and identify the sour notes from our conversations. "I used to join Campers Crusade for Christ (CCC) for door-to-door evangelism and
street evangelism in the early 80’s. However, as time goes by, I found that sharing
Christ using the four spiritual laws booklet is no longer an effective way of sharing
the Truth with others.
During my five-years stint in Indonesia as a missionary, though by the grace of
God there were a number of converts, but I found it difficult to get most people
to be interested in wanting to know more about Christianity.
However, after I attended the Practical Apologetics conducted in the Singapore Bible
College by Dr. David Geisler, I learned about pre-evangelism and the four types
of roles I need to play in the pre-believer’s life. I also learned the skill of
listening and identifying the sour notes and asking appropriate questions that surface
the uncertainty about the pre-believer’s perspectives.
Since I completed the training in November 2006, I have been practicing the
skills that I have learned. I find that it is not only practical but also effective
in my outreach ministry. At least ten persons prayed to receive Christ since I used
this approach for evangelism. I am more motivated to use the conversational evangelism
approach in my daily conversational with others as I am made aware that the most
important thing is to help the pre-believer to be one step away from his/her belief
and bring him/her one step closer to Christ. It is the grace of God who will bring
salvation to him/her."
